A boudoir session starts with your comfort. You do not have to know how to pose or arrive with a particular idea of what confidence should look like. A little preparation can help you feel more at ease and give you room to enjoy the experience as yourself.
Talk about the feeling you want
Think about the mood you are drawn to. Soft and quiet, bold and expressive, or something in between. A small collection of reference images can help explain your preferences, but it does not need to become a checklist. Talk with your photographer about what feels natural to you and what you would rather avoid.
Choose pieces that feel like you
Bring clothing that fits comfortably and makes you feel good when you move. Lingerie is one option, but a favorite shirt, robe or simple layer may also suit the photographs you have in mind. Try everything on before the session and check how it feels sitting as well as standing. An outfit you constantly need to adjust can distract you from the experience.
Keep preparation familiar
Give yourself enough time to get ready without rushing. If you plan to wear makeup or style your hair, choose an approach you recognize and feel comfortable with. The day of your session is not the ideal moment to experiment with unfamiliar products. Bring the small items you normally use for a quick touch up and keep your clothing together in an easy to carry bag.
Share your boundaries clearly
You can say what you are comfortable wearing, which poses you would prefer to skip and when you would like a break. Discuss image privacy, viewing and any permission for sharing photographs before the session. Do not assume that participation means agreeing to public use of your images. These conversations help everyone understand your wishes.
Leave perfection at the door
The most useful thing you can bring is a willingness to communicate. Let your photographer know if something feels awkward and allow time to settle in. Explore the boudoir photography page to see the style and start a conversation about a session that feels right for you.
